The parts of the route on the outskirts of town, along the cycle path and around Blaendolau playing fields, still had beautiful autumn colours for the runners to enjoy! Spectators lined the route in many areas, particularly along the Prom, where the sensible ones were able to get refreshments from The Hut (who sponsored our finish line water bottles). The pace was brisk and our local Raynet team relayed information about the lead runners by radio to the team at the start line. The runners had a clean getaway because the Council had kindly swept many tons of sand and gravel off the Prom after the recent storms. The race was started with a long blast on the klaxon by Wendy Morris – a previous Aberystwyth mayor who was a good friend of the race’s founder, Carl Williams, and who used to help organise the race when she worked for our sponsors The Cambrian News before leaving Aberystwyth to spend some time in Australia. The 2022 race (the 24th Aberystwyth Charity 10k) took place in cold, but dry and calm, conditions – perfect for running and setting fast times: many runners achieved Personal Best times and the Female course record was broken for the first time on this route it had stood since 2015! There were over 650 entries and on the day, 518 runners stood on the start line to hear plenty of encouraging banter from commentator Andy Davies. Every loop will be timed in real time! It’s a great way to build on your long run and enjoy an early spring day! The 10 K and 5 K races are on a 3.1 M loop.
The Half Marathon course consists of four loops. Bring it! These races are on a tree lined, marked course in Flushing Meadow Park. Is the date for a HALF MARATHON, 10 or 5 Kilometer race in Queens.
